House Exchange 29/08/2018

Have you been thinking about moving home? Maybe it's for a new job, a bigger place for your family or simply to be closer to loved ones. Whatever the reason, House Exchange can help you.

House Exchange is the new service we use to bring people together who are interested in swapping their homes. Currently over 100,000 people are looking to swap properties around the UK, so your ideal home could be only a few clicks away.

Enter your details at www.houseexchange.org.uk and the site will match you up with other would-be-swappers. There's also a free app, so now you can search on the move too.

Important things to consider:

Add photos: You can have up to five photos of your property on your advert, this increases your chances of finding a swap, so make sure each room looks its best in the pictures.

Include a description: House Exchange has a fantastic tool that allows you to create a description by selecting options that apply to your home. You can find this in the 'Edit my advert' area.

Get in touch: Once you've registered start messaging the properties you're interested in, arranging viewings is a great first step in your House Exchange journey.

Mutual Exchange 7/08/2018

Are you currently a tenant of a Local Authority or other Social Landlord?

If so, you may wish to consider a mutual exchange of property as an alternative or in addition to registering on Apply4Homes.

A mutual exchange can be a quicker route to move to a house which better suits the needs of your family, and allows an element of choice in both the area, and property type that you move to.

To look for an exchange you should reigster at www.housexchange.org.uk, this enables you to search for tenants anywhere in the country who wish to move

You can also place an advertisement in your local paper, shop or on social media

For any exchange to be granted it must meet te requirements of participating landlords.  The basic conditions to be satisfied include size of property being suitable for your family (some flexibility may be considered), no housing debt, and current home being in a satisfactory condition.

House Exchange is being promoted as a real alternative to lengthy waiting lists and high demand for social rented accommodation.
